Richard Meechan has over 40 years of experience in dealing with industrially injured workers. He works hard to guard the rights of injured workers in Sonoma, Mendocino, Marin, Napa, and Lake Counties in California.
EDUCATION & COURT ADMISSIONS
The California Bar Association recognizes Mr. Meechan as a Certified Workers’ Compensation Specialist. He is an active member of the California Applicants’ Attorneys Association (CAAA) and is treasurer for their executive board. He is also a chairman of CAAA’s Health and Safety Committee, which monitors the California Commission on Health and Safety and Workers’ Compensation. Prior to this, he has served on the Board of Governors for CAAA, and was president for many years for his local Chapter. He also gives his time throughout the year as an educator and advocate for CAAA. Mr. Meechan also taught for 3 years at Empire College School of Law.
LEADERSHIP, MEMBERSHIP & HONORS
In 2004, 2005, 2008 and 2009 his peers honored him as a California Super Lawyer for his tireless efforts and dedication on behalf of injured workers. In 2014, 2015 and 2016 the Workers’ Injury Law and Advocacy Group (WILG) named him as one of the top 100 Workers’ Compensation Attorneys in the nation. Most recently, CAAA presented Mr. Meechan with a Lifetime Achievement Award for his years of commitment to the greater good of injured workers and the laws that protect them.
In his earlier years, Mr. Meechan served in the military. He was a U.S. Navy Diver with explosive ordinance disposal. He later joined the National Guard and served as an Officer with the Combat Engineers as a platoon leader and detachment commander.
As a concerned citizen, he works to preserve the ecology, quality of life, and natural resources of Sonoma County. He helped found and was a Co-Chair of the Coalition for a Better Sonoma County. In 2013, Mr. Meechan was given an award of appreciation by the City of Santa Rosa for his time spent on the Board of Public Utilities. As a naturalist, Mr. Meechan has donated his knowledge, time and energy on behalf of Sonoma County’s open spaces and the Russian River.
Outside of the office, Mr. Meechan enjoys reading, spending his evenings with his wife, dog and cat, tending to his ranch and being a grandpa to his two grandsons.
